Mixed day for Liverpool

United Arab Emirates-based club Al-Ain claimed a maiden race win in round four of the Superleague Formula, after Liverpool secured victory in the day's first race in Estoril.

Al-Ain's Dutch driver Paul Meijer moved up from sixth on the grid to finish in first place in race two after Liverpool's Adrian Valles had won from second during the morning session.

Valles looked like he might help his Liverpool side to second place in the overall standings, closing the gap on runaway leaders Beijing Guoan, but his hopes were dashed when he collided with Roma's Franck Perera in race two.

Riera makes Liverpool move

Liverpool have completed the signing of Spain winger Albert Riera from La Liga side Espanyol for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Anfield after choosing Rafael Benitez's side over a host of other clubs including neighbours Everton.

Riera, who has been given the number 11 shirt at Anfield, has previously played in the Premier League in the 2005-06 season when he was on loan at Manchester City.
